Brief biographical background
I earned my B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 1998 and my M.Sc. in Biological Sciences - Environmental Biology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2003. From 2003 to 2006 I was appointed lead of the Science Communication and Collaborative Research Department in the Ecosystem Research Centre (CIEco) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Upon relocating to Canada in 2006, I pursued my Ph.D. at the University of Alberta (UofA), completing it in 2010.
Following my doctoral studies, I held positions at various institutions, including the University of Alberta, where I served as a Sessional Instructor in 2011 and later transitioned to a role as a Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Associate at the University of Lethbridge (UofL). Subsequently, I joined the Alberta Centre for Child, Family and Community Research (currently PolicyWise for Children & Families), initially as the Research Grants and Special Projects’ Manager and later as a Research Scientist.
In 2016, I joined Alberta Health Services (AHS) as part of the Alberta Cancer Prevention Legacy Fund, and later became a member of the Cancer Strategic Clinical Network (Cancer SCN). I currently am the Assistant Scientific Director for the Cancer SCN and hold an Adjunct Professor appointment with the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta. Through my roles in academia and Alberta Health Services, I have contributed to enhancing cancer care delivery, thereby improving patient outcomes and health system performance in Alberta.
